The implications of the new Poultry Welfare Standards on chicken and poultry farming in Australia

On 23 August 2022 the Australian Federal Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry announced that the Independent Poultry Welfare Panel had finalised the new Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Poultry (Poultry Welfare Standards and Guidelines). This article discusses the Poultry Welfare Standards and Guidelines and the requirements that would apply to commercial poultry processors once these provisions are incorporated into law.
