Should you list the same allergen in the ‘contains’ and ‘may contain’ statement?
New Plain English Allergen Labelling (PEAL) provisions include strict requirements for the wording that must be used in a ‘contains’ summary statement. However, the strict wording requirements gives rise to a potential anomaly that can occur where a food business would use the same terminology in the ‘contains’ statement and in a separate precautionary allergen statement.
