How international standards could impact environmental advertising in Australia
In November 2022, the Australian Association of National Advertisers (AANA) announced a major public review of its Environmental Claims Code (the AANA Code). This review seeks public feedback on the requirements of the AANA Code that apply to environmental claims in advertising either products or services. This article outlines and compares numerous regulatory and industry rules that apply under global regimes of different countries. In looking at these international environmental advertising standards, we consider the implications these requirements could have on Australian advertisers if implemented into the AANA Code.
