New food safety requirements for foodservice businesses under FSANZ Proposal P1053

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has drafted amendments to the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code (Food Standards Code) to implementing (when given ministerial approval in due course) further food safety management requirements for the foodservice and retail sectors. This article examines the nature of these changes and some important implications for food businesses in these sectors, including the introduction of a new risk classification matrix for food businesses and how this impacts existing State and Territory risk-based food business classifications. Submissions to FSANZ are scheduled to close on 11 April 2022.
