ANAO audit reveals inefficiencies in Australia’s biosecurity system

On 7 June 2021, the Australian National Audit Office published its report on the Australian Federal Government’s biosecurity compliance and enforcement procedures. It observed that many current (as at June 2021) processes are inappropriate and inadequate, and set out eight recommendations to be implemented. This article addresses the deficiencies found by the report, and how the recommendations might impact the importation of food into Australia.
