Dietary fibre in the Food Standards Code - is Australia keeping up with the developments?

Dietary fibre content is now recognised by many consumers as an important nutrient for their health. As a consequence, food companies have either reformulated their product and/or improved their marketing of the fibre nutrient in their product. This article covers the Food Standards Code definition of dietary fibre, the differences in both categories and types of dietary fibre, different methods of both analysis and calculation of fibre, some of the regulatory aspects of nutrition and health claims relating to dietary fibre and declaration of fibre on food labels.
