Regulatory implications for product pricing in recent ACCC report
During the recent Australian Federal election campaign, the Prime Minister claimed that supermarkets and food retailers were ‘price gouging’ throughout Australia. However, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese did not refer to any of the findings by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) in a recent report focusing upon the causes of rising grocery prices and proposing a number of reforms. This article examines the proposed reforms for regulatory changes that would be on the table for consideration by the new Labor government in its second term.
