In this FoodLegal Bulletin, our FREE article “Current developments in food law and policy in Australia and internationally” updates the latest in regulatory developments and news.

In our article "Recent developments in Australian advertising of food products, industry policy and regulatory requirements”, we explore the most important co-regulatory issues identified and determined in a number of cases that have been heard by the Ad Standards Australia Community Panel. We also explain the co-regulatory nature of the enforcement of industry Codes of Practice which sits in addition to the powers of the ACCC to step in and take enforcement action independently of the industry co-regulator.

In our article "Proteins as functional ingredients in food processing", we explore the technical and regulatory considerations for using proteins performing a technological function in food products.

In our article “New changes to infant formula requirements from FSANZ Proposal P1028 we consider proposed changes to infant formula requirements in Australia and New Zealand, including changes to infant formula labelling requirements and the introduction of the new category of ‘special medical purpose products for infants’.

In our article “The technical and regulatory aspects of different natural blue pigments and colourings used in foods”, we provide scientific, technical and regulatory analysis of the applications of the range of various different ‘natural’ blue pigments, such as Phycocyanin, and some of the regulatory and technical issues for their use in food.

In our article “New policy guidance following review of menu board labelling", we consider the proposed approach of introducing uniform menu board requirements into the Food Standards Code, and the implications for industry.

We hope you enjoy this June-July 2023 bumper edition of FoodLegal Bulletin!
