An update on Australia’s new import laws
On 21 September 2018, the Imported Food Control Amendment Act 2018 (Amendment Act) which amends the Imported Food Control Act 1992 (IFC Act) received royal assent. The Australian Federal Government proposes that the Amendment Act will strengthen Australia’s risk-based management approach to imported food safety. However, this article analyses whether the new laws actually do what the government says they do.
