Legal Avenues for Fighting "Binge Drinking Culture"

This article explores the current legal regulation of alcohol and the marketing and labelling laws for selling alcohol in Australia. Recent announcements by the Federal government to tackle Australia’s binge-drinking culture have highlighted the need to review the current rules and their enforcement. The Prime Minister announced a $53 million responsible drinking campaign on 8 March 2008. We examine some of the relevant policy proposals announced so far to discourage excessive alcohol consumption and the existing regulatory framework, laws and codes.
